The Liberty Theatre Program (Rendezvous des Cajin)
This program airs 6pm - 7:30 pm Louisiana time on Saturday nights. It features live bands and an MC. It is commonly referred to as the Cajun version of the Grand Ole Opra. It is broadcast out of the historic Liberty Theatre in downtown Eunice, Louisiana. The Theatre has about 600 persons attending every Saturday from the local area and from around the world. It is a great insight into Cajun culture. I particularly enjoy the way that the MC, Barry Ancelet, jokes with the bands and the audience. Many of the jokes and much of the conversation is in French and the majority of the locals in the audience understands the French. You can listen to the Liberty Theatre program by selecting it from the "Internet 3: Sat-Sun" section of this site. Enjoy!
To listen on the internet:
This programs airs on the local station in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately, it is not being broadcast over the internet. It is a "Blues" radio show originating in the Blues capital of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The D.J. is Tabby Thomas who is an elderly Blues musician and living legend. He toured Europe over 30 years ago when the Blues were going strong. He has his own blues club in downtown Baton Rouge called "Tabby's Blues Box".
Tabby likes to talk about his experience as a long time blues musician. If
you want a no-talk music program, this is probably not for you.
But, if you want an authentic blues experience, Tabby Thomas's radio show
is it!
Dorothy Pitre Cajun Show on KEUN from Eunice, Louisiana
The Dorothy Pitre Cajun Show airs from Eunice, Louisiana on radio Station KEUN 1490 AM. It does not currently air on the internet. What can I say - Dorothy Pitre is my favorite cajun DJ. She has such a wonderful personality. It is easy to hear that she really enjoys her program. Her program features a lot of older traditional cajun music which I am partial to. Also, I really enjoy hearing her speaking our Cajun French. What a treat! (She reminds me a lot of the late DJ Kodolin LeJuene who was also from the Eunice, Louisiana area and a great DJ) You can listen to the Dorothy Pitre radio program in the Eunice, Louisiana area on KEUN 1490 AM on Saturday nights 7:30 PM - midnight.
