Baton Rouge's Lagniappe Dulcimer Fete Festival



   

9th Annual Lagniappe Dulcimer F�te in Baton Rouge on March 11-14, 2010

The Lagniappe Dulcimer Society of Baton Rouge is hosting the 9th Annual Lagniappe Dulcimer F�te on March 11-14, 2010 in Port Allen which is just over the river from Baton Rouge. A dulcimer is an instrument used in old-timey folk and bluegrass music that looks somewhat like a guitar that you lay on your lap to play.

It will be held at the Community Center/West Baton Rouge Museum located at 749 North Jefferson Avenue in Port Allen, Louisiana 70767.

There will be lots of instructional classes from beginning level to advanced level on the Mountain Dulcimer, Bowed Dulcimer, Hammered Dulcimer, Banjo, Sacred Harp, Ukulele, Mandolin, Guitar, Autoharp, Harmonica, Cajun Fiddle and more! Local cajun and old-timey musician Steve Bing will be teaching the cajun fiddle lessons/workshops.

Also, there will be a lot of music jam sessions and a Square Dance/Contra Dance with EZ walk-thru calling instructions. The Square dance/contra dance is going to be on Saturday night.

The cost of the Lagniappe Dulcimer F�te will depend on whether you are a musician wanting to attend the classes/workshops or a non-musician wanting to attend the other parts of the festival.
