Ultimate Cajun Road Trip - An insiders guide to touring Cajun Louisiana

Hi, this is Clarence the Cajun DJ in Baton Rouge and www.cajunradio.org and www.facebook.com/cajunbatonrouge

Check out Bruce Daigrepont cajun band on Sundays at Tipitinas. Check the schedule for Rock'nBowl to see a zydeco band (thursdays?) If you are able to travel out of new orleans, check out Eunice Louisiana's Liberty theatre grand ole opry cajun style on saturday nights. Fred's bar in Mamou La saturday mornings 9am-noon, jam session at Marc Savoys music store saturday morning.

Best places to experience cajun/zydeco music:

1) Eunice, La - The cajun version of the Grand Ole Opry called "Rendezvous Des Cajuns" at the Liberty Theatre in downtown Eunice Louisiana. This program is held every Saturday night from 6:00pm-7:00pm and is also shown on TV, radio and broadcast over the internet at www.krvs.org. As you sit in the beautiful renovated historical Liberty Theatre, you watch and listen to cajun and zydeco bands mixed in with storytelling and recipe telling. It is one of the few public events where they tell jokes in French on stage and eveyone in the audience laughs because they understand the French. Visitors come from all around the world to experience the "Rendezvous Des Cajuns" program. Many people use this as a jumping off point for visiting the many cajun nightclubs in the area where you can spend the rest of the evening. After the show, just ask anybody there about the local cajun hotspots More info at www.eunice-la.com/libertyschedule.html

2) Baton Rouge, La - Old time cajun dances sponsored by the Baton Rouge Cajun French Music Association. The Baton Rouge CFMA dances are a continuation of the old community French dances. Held at a large hall, these events bring in quality cajun bands to perform for a crowd of around 200. Complete with tables along the sides of the hall, friendly and welcoming people, and dance lessons prior to the dance, people are always amazed at the true community nature of these events. 3) Breaux Bridge, LA - Angelle's Whiskey River Landing - Located on the banks of the Atchafalaya Basin, this the place to be on a Sunday afternoon for an enthusiatic crowd of zydeco dancers. Featuring top zydeco bands including Geno Delafose, it is a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. Features a great wood dance floor and scenic views of the Basin. You can even go on a nearby swamp tour. https://whiskeyriverlanding.net/

4) Baton Rouge, LA - Boutin's Cajun Restaurant. - Featuring cajun bands 6 nights a week, Boutins has something for everyone in the family. Cajun food, a dance floor, a bar, even a outside patio overlooking a bayou where the kids can feed the turtles. Also located in the restaurant is Poche's Meat Market where you can get Cajun meats to go along with souveniers and Louisiana spices. www.boutins.com

5) Mamou, La - Fred's Bar - Fred's bar has a long tradition of having a cajun band playing every Saturday morning from 9am-11am for a live radio broadcast. People come from across the U.S. and from other countries to see experience Fred's Saturday morning show. Overseeing an authentic cajun experience that is truely unique, the elderly owner Tante Sue even joins the band to sing. The program can be heard live on the internet at www.kvpionline.com or on the local airwaves of KVPI AM 1050.

6) New Orleans - Tipitina's Nightclub - Tipitina's music hall in New Orleans is known worldwide for showcasing Louisiana's music. Legendary Cajun musician Bruce Daigrepont performs there every Sunday evening for a Cajun Fais Do Do that has been going on for decades. www.tipitinas.com
